Salmonella is group of bacteria known to cause diseases in both humans and animals. Salmonella can infect cold blooded animals and are readily isolated in the environment due to fecal contamination. They also cause diseases like food poisoning, paratyphoid and typhoid fever. Salmonella are rod-shaped gram-negative bacterium belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae.
