Assessing rural resources and livelihood development strategies combining socioeconomic and spatial methodologies

In many mountainous regions of Asia, poverty, deforestation and land degradation processes are major development challenges as poor socioeconomic condition and natural resource degradation follow a certain spatial gradient leading to further resources degradation and socioeconomic differentiation (Doppler et al., 2006; Bahadur KC, 2005a,b). Farming systems in these areas are characterized by the inter-relationship of complex natural systems and human society (Doppler 1998; 2006).
